Polemics and Western Journalism - Part 1

vilenin.substack.com

Last November, when I saw a photo of members of the “Free Hong Kong Movement” waving a US flag, I decided to make a true thread, mostly for purposes of humor, thread of “fascists around the world waving the US Flag.” In order to be featured in my thread, which I carefully explained, a group would have to be both fascist and waving the US Flag.

Parker Richards, is a staff editor at The New York Times’ opinion pages. He last wrote for The New Republic on the aesthetics of political violence. He quotes Aime Cesare, in trying to define a new word for “American Exceptionalism” which he calls “counter-exceptionalism”.

Someone so concerned with political violence should not be burning strawmen in ways that have had warlords the world over dragged into The Hague — nor should one so self-reportedly concerned with whether people are politically informed employ such disingenuous rhetorical tactics in a feeble attempt to confine their audience to the ideological borders they've drawn for them."

“The hour of the barbarian is at hand. The modern barbarian. The American hour. Violence, excess, waste, mercantilism, bluff, conformism, stupidity, vulgarity, disorder.”

The rest of the article proceeds with the typical ignorance juxtaposed by extreme arrogance and condescension commonly found among the liberal class. Without once interviewing me, nor asking me about my thread, Parker Richards wrote:

But that does not stop the uninformed. The prominent far-left podcast host Esha Krishnaswamy, for instance, went so far as to label pro-democracy activists in Hong Kong, Russian dissidents agitating against Vladimir Putin’s dictatorship, anti-authoritarian campaigners in Belarus, supporters of continued Ukrainian sovereignty, the free Tibet movement, pro-Uyghur campaigners, anti-dictatorship agitators in Cuba, and far-left Syrian rebel groups “fascists” for no better reason than that they had all flown the American flag during rallies.

If Parker Richards had infact, paid little attention what I said, he would have known that I was not saying “flying a US flag makes you fascist.” Instead, I said, “here are some fascist rallies around the world where they flew Us flags.” One is a conditional, the other is a mere statement.

My statement that he shameless linked to the his article that contradicts his claim.

Since fascism, is so poorly explained within the US educational framework, I do not blame the author for not understanding what fascism is nor understanding the nuances and histories of ancient cultures around the world.

I decided to break down this response into two parts. The first part, I look at the various movements that I called ‘fascist’ to determine if I had a made a mistake in any of my analysis. I use the definition that I provided in the Economy of Evil to define fascism. Part 2, will be a deeper drive into the follies of western Journalism as practiced by Mr. Parker Richards.

Hong Kong

Please read my article from two years ago, where I take particular attention to explain the fascist nature of Hong Kong Protests.

Shadi Hamid's Lesson in Regime-Change Propaganda
Shadi Hamid, part-time propagandist for US regime-change wars and part-time writer at The Atlantic regurgitated an article entitled “Americans have lost sight of what Fascism means” Many academics politely explained to him what was wrong with the article. However, an academic muting the word “Shadi” seemed to upset him and tweeted an extremely unhinge…

Russian “Dissidents”

I am curious why Mr. Richards from the New Republic decided to call Alexey Navalny Rather “Russian dissidents agitating against Vladimir Putin’s dictatorship.” I even wrote Navalny’s name in the thread in my tweet. I wonder if it is because Mr. Richards, not wanting to inconvenience himself, even a little, for the sake of an article decided not to look into it.

Alexey Navalny operated a non-profit to sue on behalf of minority Shareholder’s rights in derivative lawsuits regarding partially state-owned enterprise. He is the head of a NED-funded party called “Iablako” which means apple. He is known for making racist and genocidal statements against people who live in the Caucus Mountains and Muslims. He also wanted to fly Swastikas during VE day celebrations in Russia. Therefore, I stand by my original classification of “fascist”

@RodericDay @j0s_z @CNN @jimsciutto .@eshaLegal has since subtitled the ad! But yes, pretty simple stuff; 1) Alexei Navalny is a political prisoner, and 2) he definitely should be.

Anti-Authoritarian Campaigners in Belarus

Ignoring the fact that the red, white, red armband was originally used by the Belarussian SS, here are some photos of anti-authoritarian campaigners in Belarus. Of course, the Platform of the opposition, shows that they want to a Ukraine-style reform on steriods.

Pro-Uighur Movements

The East Turkestan movement has been funded by the US and Turkey to create an ethno-state in Xinxiang. Here is a quick rundown of all the lies that can be independently checked using your favorite western sources

Anti-Dictatorship Agitators in Cuba

Majority of the Anti-Cuba activists are heavily funded by the US government. They aim both the restoration of capitalism and restoration of apartheid in Cuba. Here is an excellent article by Afro-Cubans explaining what the anti-socialist exiles seek

Mr. Richards says:

That none of these groups are in fact fascist was irrelevant; the presence of the U.S. flag was itself condemnatory. To a protester in Hong Kong agitating against the takeover of a fledgling democracy by China’s authoritarian government, the American flag may need to represent little more than a symbol of opposition to the Chinese Communist Party

As I mentioned earlier in the article “The Economy of Evil” violent anticommunism is definitionally fascism, there is no "third option" that historically has been anything other than the scenic route to fascism.

Indeed, Mr. Richards shows that he did not carefully read my very first tweet in the thread, or more importantly, didn’t care to be correct about the first tweet. Because his job depends not on his investigative skills or his fact-finding skills, but merely applying labels pre-determined by the State Department onto people.

In that, he succeeded. He was able to label me as an “anti-American” nut, who is “unread”(But that does not stop the uninformed) and a social chauvinist( Krishnaswamy’s argument ignores the reality of an America that is complicated, whose image abroad is not as cloistered and monolithic as the one she herself maintains).
